Sam Bakken, 22, died Sept. 17, 1984

Samuel C. Bakken, born Sept. 15, 1962 in Moorhead, Minn.
Sam was 22 years old and was a senior at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota when he died.  He was one of the captains of the hockey team.  His hockey jersey and number (18) have been permanently retired at Concordia and he is featured in a display in the Concordia Field House. He was set to go to medical school to fulfill his dream of being an ophthalmologist. Concordia has established the Sam Bakken Student Athlete Scholarship fund in his memory. Male or female hockey players who are upperclassmen with a GPA of 3.0 or better are eligible. Please thank Sam's classmates from BHS for remembering him.

Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minn.

This page was updated courtesy of Mr. & Mrs. Curtis Bakken.

It is never easy remembering a loved one passed on so we want to thank the Bakken's for doing so.  The above photo was Sam's senior picture from his graduating high school, John Marshall High in Rochester, Minnesota.
